New player clinic on August 9 (Ages 4-8): Northwest Softball is hosting a FREE softball clinic on Saturday, August 9 at 9:00 a.m. for girls ages 4-8 years old who are interested in exploring the game. We'd love to introduce your daughter to softball in a fun, encouraging environment. Learn more and sign up here.

Frequently Asked Questions
  • Difference Between Fall and Spring?: Fall has more of an instructional focus and is a great time for those wanting to try it out. Spring is the main competitive season with post-season play opportunities!
  • What are the Age Group Cutoffs?: Northwest Softball determines age brackets according to birth year, with a cutoff of Dec. 31 of the previous year. See the Age Key under the Registration tab to determine player’s Age Group.
  • Will There Be a Team in All Age Groups?: A minimum of 10 players is required to form a team, and Northwest has been fortunate to field a team in each age group over the last five seasons.
  • Can Players "Play Up"?: Playing up an age group is prohibited, with one exception. In the fall season, if a player is scheduled to move up an age group in the spring season, they have the option to move up.
  • When Will Teams Practice?: Practices will be held weeknights at three locations - Northwest Softball (3105 Hunt Trail), NAO Field #5 (1105 Morrow St), and possibly at Anderson HS (8403 Mesa Drive).
  • How Often Will Teams Practice?: This is up to the team coaches, but typically younger players (6U) practice 1 time/week, sometimes with an optional second practice, and older age groups (8U, 10U, 12U, 14U) practice twice a week.
  • When Will Games Be Played?: Most games will be played on Saturdays, with some weeknight games scheduled during the spring season for the older age groups.
  • What is Required to Be a Coach?: NWS coaches should possess a positive attitude, softball knowledge, strong organization & communication, & a devotion to teaching. The league will provide training & support to its volunteer coaches.
  • How Do I Become a Coach?: Coaches can apply by registering as a Volunteer when they sign their player up for the season. The Northwest Softball Board will make the final determination of coaches.
  • How Can I Volunteer?: So glad you asked! Our league is 100% volunteer-run. We need volunteers to serve as team parents, help with concessions & field maintenance, keep score at games etc. Select the category that suits you
  • How Else Can I Support NW Softball?: We are always looking to expand our community partnerships. Area businesses can sponsor teams or donate, email us at sponsorship@nwsoftball.org to learn more!
  • Select vs. All Stars?: Any player participating in a Select tournament or is rostered on a select team (even a practice squad!) is ineligible for a Northwest All Star team. Please keep this in mind for the summer.
